Peter Gregory Obi has emerged as the sole presidential aspirant of the National Democratic Coalition following a rigorous screening exercise conducted in Abuja on May 19.
Obi disclosed in a statement shared on X that the screening process lasted over two and a half hours, during which his credentials were thoroughly examined by the party’s screening committee.
According to him, the panel carefully reviewed his academic qualifications, including his degree certificates, NYSC documentation, age declaration, and other statutory records required for eligibility.
He also noted that he was questioned extensively on his vision for Nigeria and his perspective on the kind of leadership the country currently needs.
“During the process, I also addressed questions regarding my vision for a new Nigeria and the type of leadership our nation urgently needs right now,” Obi said.
Following the exercise, he confirmed that he was successfully cleared by the committee and subsequently issued the presidential nomination form he had earlier purchased.
Obi commended the screening committee, which was chaired by former governor Sam Egwu, describing the process as thorough, professional, and transparent.
He also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NDC for what he described as its commitment to due process and internal democracy.
The development positions Obi as the only cleared presidential aspirant of the party, following what officials described as a strict and structured screening process aimed at strengthening internal party standards and promoting credible leadership recruitment.
