RIP: Fans, Celebrities Mourn Nollywood Star, Alexx Ekubo

Fans and followers of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo have continued to express grief across social media platforms following reports of his death, describing the development as shocking and heartbreaking.

The Nigerian entertainment industry was thrown into mourning on Tuesday after news of the actor’s passing surfaced online, with colleagues, celebrities, and fans sharing emotional tributes.

According to multiple media reports, the actor reportedly died after a prolonged battle with cancer, although official details from family representatives remained limited as tributes poured in.

Fans from Nigeria and beyond flooded social media with condolence messages, remembering the actor for his talent, charisma, and memorable roles in Nollywood productions.

One fan, identified as @Mr_Rekindled on X, wrote, “Is this some late April Fool joke? God, what kind of news is this? Rest in peace bro, I don’t even know what to type.”

Another user, @perpetuaEbubech, posted, “Rest well Alex. I am done pressurising myself and being ungrateful. Being alive is enough.”

Others described the news as painful and reflective, with many urging people to value life and kindness.

The actor’s colleagues in the entertainment industry also shared emotional tributes.

Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo wrote, “Life is not only fickle, it can also feel unreal. Even as I type this, I still struggle to fully process it. Rest in peace to a truly great soul. You came, you saw, and you conquered.”

Actor Bolanle Ninalowo posted, “Rest on, Alex. May God heal your family and us all.”

Singer Peter Okoye simply wrote, “RIP,” while actor Chinedu Ikedieze reacted with disbelief, writing, “Jesus, how?”

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also paid tribute, describing Ekubo as “a rare talent whose presence lit up the screen effortlessly.”

Born on April 10, 1986, Alexx Ekubo was regarded as one of Nollywood’s versatile actors, known for starring in romantic dramas, comedy films, and several blockbuster productions.

The actor had been noticeably absent from social media and public events for months, raising concerns among fans. His last Instagram post was reportedly made in December 2024.
