In a move to shake up his administration, President Bola Tinubu has sworn in eight Federal Permanent Secretaries and 18 new Federal Commissioners, marking a significant restructuring within the government.
The high-stakes ceremony took place just before the first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of the year at the State House, Abuja. With a keen focus on governance efficiency, Tinubu officially inducted the new officials, who now hold key positions in shaping Nigeria’s bureaucratic framework.
Among the newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries are Onwusoro Ihemelandu (Abia), Ndiomu Philip (Bayelsa), Anuma Nlia (Ebonyi), Ogbodo Nnam (Enugu), Usman Aminu (Kebbi), Oyekunle Nwakuso (Rivers), Nadungu Gagare (Kaduna), and Kalba Usman (Gombe). Their appointment signals Tinubu’s commitment to reinvigorating the nation’s civil service.
In addition to the Permanent Secretaries, the President also swore in 18 Commissioners for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). These appointees—who hail from various states across Nigeria—will be pivotal in determining how federal funds are distributed, making them some of the most influential financial policymakers in the country.
Notably, this swearing-in follows Tinubu’s initial appointment of 21 federal commissioners last August, pending Senate confirmation. With this final approval, the RMAFC is now fully equipped to oversee Nigeria’s revenue sharing and fiscal policies.
The meeting also paid tribute to the late Lt. Gen Jeremiah Useni, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who passed away on January 23, 2025. A minute’s silence was observed in his honour.
This event marks the official end of the six-week FEC recess, setting the tone for what could be a fast-paced year of governance under President Tinubu’s leadership.
