The federal high court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), due to the unavailability of important documents held by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Kanu’s legal team began cross-examining a key witness identified as BBB on Monday. However, the session was interrupted when they reached a point where certain original documents were needed to properly question the witness.
Although the defence had already applied for certified true copies (CTC) of the documents from the DSS, they had not received them by the time of the court session.
“We needed those documents to confront the witness. Since they were not available, the court had to adjourn,” one of Kanu’s lawyers told reporters.
The judge adjourned the case to May 21 and 22, 2025, to allow time for the documents to be provided.
Kanu’s lawyers expressed hope that the DSS will release the necessary materials before the next hearing date so the trial can continue without further delays.
