The Obidient Movement has cleared the air following widespread reports/rumours suggesting that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has accepted a position as running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a new political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement signed by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the movement, the group described the claims as completely false and misleading, warning the public not to fall for baseless political gossip.
“We want to be very clear—there is absolutely no truth to the reports. Mr. Peter Obi has not accepted to be anyone’s running mate. These stories are simply imaginary and aimed at causing confusion,” the statement read.
Rather than focus on political power games, the Obidient Movement says its coalition conversations with other political groups are focused on building a united front to fight the real problems facing Nigerians—such as bad governance, corruption, hunger, poor healthcare, and the growing number of children out of school.
“Mr. Obi is not in politics just for the sake of power. He wants politics that serves the people. That is what this movement stands for,” Kazaure added.
The group also confirmed that Peter Obi remains a member of the Labour Party and that if any change happens, it would be announced officially by Obi himself.
Calling on the media and Nigerians at large to avoid sensationalism, the Obidient Movement urged everyone to focus on contributing to national development rather than spreading unconfirmed rumours.
“We need to build, not break,” the statement concluded.
