The Labour Party has officially released its timetable, schedule of activities, and nomination fees for the 2026 primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party said the schedule aligns with provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, and the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms will begin on May 6, 2026, and close on May 16, 2026, while submission of completed forms is scheduled for May 17 and 18. Screening of aspirants will take place between May 20 and May 22, followed by the publication of results on May 23.
Appeals and petitions arising from the screening process will be handled between May 24 and May 25, with the final list of cleared aspirants expected on May 26.
Party primaries are slated for May 27 for State Houses of Assembly and governorship positions, while National Assembly and presidential primaries will hold on May 29.
The party also released a detailed fee structure for aspirants. Those seeking presidential tickets are expected to pay a total of ₦50 million, covering both expression of interest and nomination forms. Governorship aspirants will pay ₦25 million, Senate aspirants ₦10 million, House of Representatives aspirants ₦5 million, and State Assembly aspirants ₦3 million.

However, the party announced a waiver for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, stating that he will receive the governorship nomination form free of charge.
In a move aimed at inclusivity, the party approved concessions for women, youths aged 25 to 30, and persons living with disabilities. These categories will only be required to purchase expression of interest forms across all positions.
The party further urged prospective aspirants to complete their membership registration before the May 4, 2026 deadline. It noted that the ongoing e-registration exercise is critical for inclusion in the party’s membership register to be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission in compliance with electoral regulations.
The announcement signals the formal kickoff of internal party processes as political parties begin early preparations for the 2027 elections.
